Blog #2 Today I was tasked with doing research and gain more importation on the topics Dr. Shinitzky and I had spoken about previously. I read an article written by Shinitzky and Kub, the article was about The Art of Motivating Behavior Change: The Use of Motivational Interviewing to Promote Health. The idea besides this article was to touch on the 5 stages of change. The five stages are as follows: 1.)Precontemplation is the stage in which there is an unwillingness to change a problem behavior or there is a lack of recognition of the problem. 2.) Contemplation involves the stage in which there is a consideration of change with a decision-making evaluation of the pros and cons of both the problem behavior and the change. 3.) Preparation represents the commitment to change in the near future, usually 1-month. 4.) Action, this is when the change or modification happens. 5.) Maintenance this is when patients modify their lifestyles to avoid relapse. The article also touched on The
Blog #1 Today I met with my senior project mentor, we talked about the opportunities that have been set up for me. I will be traveling all over the Tampa area working with Sport Psychologist, Sport hypnosis, The CEO of National Sports Performance Institute , and a Sport Psychologist at IMG.     This evening, I had my first clinical call, this particular athlete was a very skilled swimmer and was approaching a national ranking. He was ready to walk away from that all because he didn’t like the coaching style. The athlete exhibited poor behavior and acted like a jerk sending the wrong message to the coaching staff and his teammates. He often blamed his behavior on the external factors rather than owning up to his own mistakes and learning from them. Dr. Shinitzky and I spoke about the two times to respectfully disrespectfully interrupt during a conversation.
