Blog #5

Today I had a casual meeting with Dr. Shinitzky. We talked more in-depth about his book. This allowed me to dive deeper into me in my education about the field of Sport Psychology. We spoke about the importance of positive self-talk and the need to put things in perspective. We also talked about fan/fanatics/frenemies, it's an interesting concept. When people jump to frenemies they think about the external, however, you have an internal frenemy. When you think negative or have the negative self talk you put yourself at a self at a disadvantage! You think negatively, you will have a negative outcome, period. We also spend time reflecting on personal stories, I was able to draw connects with the reading and my own life. Dr. Shinitzky said it's great that I can connect to what I am learning.
I also spend time going over my information to post on the Facebook page. I want to give a huge shout out to Amie in tech, she has helped me to discover what I needed to in order to fulfill my responsibilities. Amie, you’re a GOAT! With that being said, the posts will start going up soon and I am very excited to share the information I’ve gathered with other athletes like myself. The of the last takes away I had was talking about the 25 traits that elite athletes have. For me, this was very important to go through, when we look at elite athletes we see that they possess these superhuman abilities and traits. We choose to talk about the high pain threshold, teamwork, adaptability, leadership, etc. We also touched on the role of parents, parents have the power to make or break the athlete. When a parent lectures there child over or sports game or gets kicked out of the the game they show their child that behavior is acceptable. Dr. Shinitzky says, children are the best and worst of what they are exposed to. It's important to remember a parents role is to provide love, transportation, and writing checks. Allow your child to be couched!!
Overall, I was able to reflect and think about the read! I've had a great time so fat and I learned an incredible amount. I can't wait to learn more and drive deeper into the reading and expanding my knowledge.
