Today I had the opportunity to shadow a Sports Hypnosis by the name of Lynne Cuchara. We first outlined the work she does and how it translates to the sports world. The idea is to relax your body and subconsciously fix the problem. In this state, the subcone part of you is taking in information and interpreting quite literally. Lynne was a Yoga and Meditation instructor for 15 years prior to her job now, so she knows and understands what it takes to relax someone. Her idea is to allow athletes a place to relax and use positive self-talk methods to help an an an athlete push past their fear or mental block. The athlete we worked with is an amazing gymnast, she was a regional champion, a state champion, and is on her way to being an Eastern champion! Yet, she suffers from fear and has struggled to stay motivated at times. She wanted to work on her nervous and mental block. This mental block eats away at her to the point that she forces herself to do what she loves. The way that Lynne operates is she sees her patients 4 or 5 times a month. The idea besides this was to allow the athletes to grow outside of what she’s doing. It's important that you grow and practice outside of sessions to get the best results.
During the meditation, Lynne used four different steps to help the patient get deeper in a hypnotic state. The first stage was breathing, when you breathe in, you bring yourself to the high stress and negative self-talk. When you exhale you are letting go of the of all the negative energy and bring yourself to a more relaxed state. The second was energy level, we all have the tendency to bring our energy levels up and down depending on the day. With this meditation, you are able to control your energy and stress level. The third part is to do an eye check and body check. The thought process besides this is that you are reinforcing that idea that you are in a hypnotic state. When the patient is in this state there brain doesn’t fight it and they are open to the idea of suggestion. Lynne will use the keywords and phrases that the patient chooses in order to maximize the session. The last part is a 5 count come back, with this Lynne speaks softly and allows the patient time to become alert and present.
This was an amazing experience and I learned so much from Lynne. We talked about the benefits it has on the mind and how powerful the brain is as a tool for a suggestion. The biggest take away is that you make your own reality and are the master of your density.
